Jessica Rinaldi graduated from Boston University’s photo program in 1991. She won the Pulitzer Prize in the Feature category in 2016 for a series of photos that she shot for the Boston Globe of a young boy named Strider Wolf growing up poor in rural Maine. Strider faces some pretty tough times there.
A 50mm 1.8 prime lens is not required – but…
A 50mm 1.8 is always a good idea. It’s a prime lens, not a variable focal length, which makes it compact. It also is sharp, bright, and relatively inexpensive. A 50mm makes it easy to work in low light, and it catches less flare from backlight. But the lens is not required for class. The kit lens that comes with the camera can work.
